Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for these guys; they often make chicken salad out of chicken shit, sometimes without even having a bowl. Letting that stick welder find its own path to ground can queef out the main bearings of the lathe. Don't tell me how many times they've done this type of repair this way . . . they've been lucky.

Ma non mi posso esimere dal chiedermi perché un assale si è rotto? Domanda che io mi porrei Prima di eseguire la riparazione; Logicamente: Se un assale nuovo di fabbrica si è rotto; Perché non dovrebbe rompersi di nuovo un assale riparato? A volte vedo eseguire dei rinforzi esagerati allo scopo di prevenire una possibile successiva rottura del pezzo riparato! Ma dubito che questo possa servire a garantire la maggiore tenuta di tutto il complesso! il funzionamento di ogni sistema meccanico, si basa sull'equilibrio tra rigidità e flessibilità! Se si rinforza troppo un tratto del sistema, si determina maggior sforzo e quindi maggior possibilità di rottura in altri punti del pezzo! Certo è che un componente riparato tramite Saldatura non può essere più robusto di un pezzo integro! Mai rotto! Immagino che la causa di tante rotture e conseguenti riparazioni, sia l'abitudine di sovraccaricare eccessivamete i mezzi, ben oltre la soglia di sostenibilità dei veicoli!

It probably cracked where it cracked (which looks like where the fillet should be) due to shoddy casting. All the bearing journals look horrible to begin with. I'm gonna go out on a thin limb here. Cheap parts, cheap repair. Doesn't matter how long it works just as long as it works long enough to go down the street.😅 I will say this however, that guy is good at making a decent center punch. OMG the laughter never ends. Towards the end they use a dial indicator to check for runout and the indicator is maxed out so of course its not gonna show any runout. This is bad comedy.

There are pegged and welded teeth in the back gear of my Southbend 9C. Works, bit noisy. A bit of preheat wouldn’t go a miss and it’s definitely a bodge

They wrap the chain around polished rod journals! WTF? I thought everyone knew that rule #1 is to always protect the polished surfaces of a crankshaft and camshaft. Guess they didn't get the memo. I've never seen a crank with bolt-on balance weights. Must be an India thing. No way in hell would I run that crankshaft in any engine! It's weak and now it's out of balance. The engine is going to have a severe vibration and that's going to break the crank again.

Nope, will not last...the force is to the side, forcing the centre of gravity on the crank to widen the actual torque band. Plus using sandpaper to clean the journals is off-setting the bearing tolerances....Well, you get what you pay for.....
